We need help!!!

Un día, una vecinita tocó a mi puerta y me dijo "Me encontré un gatito. No lo puedo tener en mi casa y se lo traje a usted porque sé que es buena con los animales".

One day a little girl from the neighborhood knocked on my door and said to me "I found a kitten, I can´t have it in my house so I brought it to you cause I know you are good with animals".

Esta historia la viví muchas veces, no sólo con ella, sino con otros vecinos e incluso amigos y familiares. Y así llegaron para quedarse multitud de gatitos y perritos, al grado que necesitamos hacer algo para reducir el hacinamiento por el bien de ellos... y el nuestro también.

This is a story I´ve lived many times, and not only with her, but with other neighbors, friends and even family members. And thats how lots of kittens and puppies arrived and stayed, and now we need to do something to reduce the ammount we have, for their sake and ours.

El encontrarte un animalito y llevarlo a un albergue no significa que con eso ya hiciste una buena obra; tampoco significa que salvaste una vida. Por el momento encontraste una solución cómoda para tí, pero si no te ocupaste de proporcionarle personalmente a ese ser la alimentación y cuidados médicos que requiere, lamentablemente no hiciste nada.

When you find an animal on the street and take it to a shelter doesn´t mean that you did a good deed or that you saved a life; You probably saved his life at that momment , but if you didn´t make sure that animal had food or the medical help it needs, sadly you did nothing.

¿Alguna vez haz visitado a alguna familia de escasos recursos? ¿Sí te has fijado que donde comen dos, comen diez? ¿Si te has fijado que en una cama individual llegan a dormir hasta cuatro personas? ¿Alguna vez te has visualizado viviendo así? No podrías, ¿verdad?

Have you ever visited a low income family? Have you noticed that where two can eat, ten actually eat? Have you noticed that in a single bed four people need to sleep? Can you see yourselfef living like that? You couldn´t, right?

Bien, esa es la situación actual de los albergues de animales. No se dan abasto con la población y obviamente los gastos en los que incurren son enormes, no sólo por la alimentación, sino también por los medicamentos, honorarios médicos, compra de insumos de limpieza, materiales y mano de obra por mantenimiento, y muchos otros. Esto sin mencionar todo el tiempo y esfuerzo enormes que aporta gente voluntaria que acude ocasionalmente ó por temporadas a hacer un poco de labor animal.

Well that is the current situation fo the animal shelters. Overpopulated and the expenses to make it work and enourmous, not only because of the food but also for medication, cleaning supplies, maintnance work, etc. This not mentioning all the huge effort and time that volunteers ocasionally or seasonally give to the animals.

Encontrar un animalito y llevarlo a un albergue, aunque llegues con una bolsa de alimento bajo el brazo, no es ayuda.

Finding an animal and taking it to a shelter, even if you arrive with a bag of food under your arm, is not help.

Ayuda es que tú hagas un compromiso con la vida que acabas de salvar, acogiéndolo bajo tu ala. Y si no puedes hacer eso, búscale un hogar temporal en lo que le encuentras un hogar permanente. Llévalo al médico, cúralo y dale sus medicinas. Límpialo y limpia sus desechos. Después de pasar por todo este proceso y entregarlo al hogar donde lo van a amar y cuidar como tú lo harías, entonces multiplica imaginariamente por 100 (ó por 200) todo el esfuerzo que te llevó y eso te dará una idea de lo que es un albergue.

Help is you making a commitment to the life you just saved, taking it under your wing. If you can´t do that, look for a foster home while you find him a forever home. Take it to the doctor, help it heal. Clean and pick up the "poop". After all this process and giving him to the home where he will be loved and cared as you would do it, multiply that over a 100 (or 200) and that will give you an idea of what a shelter is like.

Pero si te encuentras en la situación de que no puedes hacer eso, ten por seguro que hay muchas otras formas de ayudar. No necesitas donar dinero en efectivo, pero una bolsa de alimento siempre será bien recibida. Hay medicamentos comunes de uso humano que los albergues pueden utilizar en sus curaciones y tratamientos. Si te sobran toallas, telas e incluso sábanas, también son útiles, sobre todo en la época de frío.

If you find yourself in the situation that you can´t do that, there are lots of ways to help. You don´t need to donate cash, but a bag of food will always be welcome. There are comun medicines of human use that shelters can use for treatment and wounds. If you have extra towels, fabric, bed sheets all of that is usefull, specially on the cold season.

¡Tu tiempo también es valiosísimo! Visita a un animalito periódicamente y pasa un rato con él. Llévale treats (golosinas). Promociónalo para encontrarle un hogar. Hazle su grupo de Facebook o su Twitter y sube sus fotos para lograr ese fin. Ofrécete para llevarlo al doctor cuando sea necesario.

Your time is so valuable too!!! Visit a animal periodically and spend some time with it. Bring him treats. Help him get adopted . Make a Facebook group or twitter and upload pictures to accomplish this. Volunteer to take him to the doctor when in need.

Ofrécete para organizar y participar en eventos de adopción. Imparte la filosofía de "No compres, adopta" entre tus amigos y familiares. Haz que tu familia y amigos participen y te apoyen en tu causa.

Volunteer to organize and be a part of adoption rallys. Live by the philosophy of "Don´t buy, adopt" Make sure your family and friends are a part of this and help with your cause.
